The White House was won by Democrat Joe Biden, US media said on Saturday, beating Donald Trump and ending an administration that convulsed American politics, shook the world, and left the U.S. more fragmented than in decades at any time.
Confirming the victory of Biden, who will be the oldest American president at 78, brings to a climax three days of fear and confusion since the election that preceded one of the most bruising US presidential races of modern times.
Biden, whose vice president would be Kamala Harris, the first person to fill the position in the history of America, proclaimed the Associated Press the winner on Saturday night after securing more than the critical 270 electoral votes he needed to secure the White House.
The race was also called in his favour by CNN, NBC News and CBS News, after projecting that he had won the decisive state of Pennsylvania. Biden also won Nevada immediately after securing the election, leading to his Electoral College victory over Trump.

Trump, declining to concede defeat, said that after news networks announced the Democrat’s victory, Biden was “rushing to unfairly pose as the winner.”
Trump said, “We all know why Joe Biden is racing to wrongly appear as the winner, and why his friends in the media are working so hard to support him: they don’t want to expose the truth.”
“The simple truth is that this election is far from over.”
Trump stressed that the findings have not been approved by states yet, and his team has mounted numerous legal threats.
However, nearly full returns released by each state gave Biden an insurmountable lead, enabling network news outlets, as they do every election, to call the ultimate vote.
Harris said in a tweet that the election was about “so much more than [Biden] or me. It’s about America’s soul and our determination to fight for it. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. Let ‘s start.”

In a tweet, Prime Minister Imran Khan complimented Biden and Harris for making it to the White House.
“Congratulations @JoeBiden & @KamalaHarris. [I] look forward to the Global Democracy Summit of President Elect Biden and to partnering with him to end illicit tax shelters and stealth among greedy representatives of the nation’s riches,” he said.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan “will also continue to search for peace in Afghanistan and the region with the United States.”

The triumph after a heated contest during a global coronavirus pandemic was the crowning achievement of his half century in US politics, including eight years as deputy to the first Black US president , Barack Obama, for Biden, who earned more than 74 million votes, a record.
The outcome convicted 74-year-old Trump to become the first one-term president since George H. W. Bush at the beginning of the 1990s, who made frantic efforts to argue bribery to halt the vote count.
The Republican, whose marathon news conferences, blogging and raucous campaign rallies have made him a perpetual, disruptive figure at home and abroad over the last four years, had no immediate reaction.
But ever since he falsely declared victory the night after Tuesday’s election, Trump has been living in a world steadily detached from the truth of his approaching demise.
He left the White House earlier on Saturday to play golf for the first time since Election Day, tweeting: “I WON THIS ELECTION, BY A LOT!” And he said “they are seeking to win the presidency” in an unprecedented White House address to the nation on Thursday, with Biden’s lead in the preliminary results already consolidating rapidly. Amid Trump’s objections, the returns from voting counting offices across the world kept arriving all week, with no reliable evidence of discrepancies.
And when the US news networks announced that Biden had taken an insurmountable lead in Pennsylvania, the Democrats overcame the magic of 270 votes in the Electoral College.
Trump didn’t have any way out.
