After the first case appeared in the country in February, several politicians, including Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, have tested positive for the virus.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Taimur Khan Jhagra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister, both tested positive earlier and have recovered since.
Situation of viruses
Since November, the second coronavirus wave has worsened in the region, with Pakistan announcing a record number of regular deaths earlier this week, numbers not seen since the summer height of the virus.
Data from the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) revealed a day earlier that more than 5,000 persons tested positive and more than 176 casualties were recorded in two days.
The occupancy of vents shows that as many as 44 percent of the ventilators assigned to Covid-19 patients were occupied in Islamabad, 43pc in Multan, 30pc in Lahore and 27pc in Peshawar, while 309 ventilators were occupied across Pakistan. The state of oxygen beds shows that beds were occupied in Peshawar 60pc, Rawalpindi 41pc, Multan 39pc and in Islam-abad 39pc.
As compared to 2.22pc worldwide, the present fatality risk attributed to Covid-19 is 2.02pc.
In comparison, 70pc male people were contaminated in Pakistan from total patents, 77.5pc were above the age of 50 years, and 73pc had chronic comorbidities. As many as 91pc of the dead remained hospitalised and 58pc of the sick hospitalised remained on ventilators.
