Bilawal an exclusive interview with BBC Urdu, in which he discussed several topics, including the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections and the 11-party opposition alliance, the PPP chairman made the revelation.
Nawaz addressed the Gujranwala rally of the PDM in October and accused the security establishment of being behind his ouster as prime minister and “bringing Imran Khan to power.”
Nawaz asked who made the “state above a state” and who was responsible for the two governments in this country in his address, which was broadcast via video link from London, moving on to call the Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa. Lt Gen Faiz Hameed was also called as being behind it all.
Bilawal said in his interview with BBC Urdu that when the PDM ‘s agenda was being set, neither Nawaz nor his party had taken up the selection of the army or ISI leaders.
“There was discussion during the all-party conference about whether the blame should be laid on one institution or the whole system,” Bilawal said, adding that “it was agreed not to name a single institution, the establishment would be.”
Bilawal went on to state that he was “shocked” when he specifically heard Nawaz taking the names of the COAS and the ISI chief.
It was a shock to me because, usually, at rallies, we don’t speak like this. But Nawaz leads a faction of his own, and I can’t control what he’s doing, just as he can’t regulate what I’m doing,’ said Bilawal.
It was also said by the PPP chariman that the opposition did not want the military leadership to withdraw.
“Let me explain that this is not part of our criteria and does not represent our position.”
He added that when it comes to his own party, he personally refrained from levelling allegations at rallies. “But if he wants, Nawaz has the right to take such a stance.”
Bilawal said that without evidence, Nawaz, who has served three times as prime minister of the country, would not have taken the names of Gen Bajwa and Gen Faiz.
As far as the names of the COAS and the leader of the ISI are concerned, I believe that Nawaz would not have done so without any evidence, and I am sure. On the basis of facts, those claims should come out.
Commenting on the investigation into the events surrounding the arrest in Karachi of the former PML-N official, Capt Mohammad Safdar, Bilawal said he had no further communication in this regard with the army chief.
“I am aware, though, that an investigation is pending at the moment. I am confident that the inquiry will be concluded and those involved will be found and disciplined.” I’m politely waiting for me right now to be told of the investigation, “he said.”
Bilawal, who has been drumming up support for the PPP in the upcoming legislative assembly polls in Gilgit-Baltistan for the past few days, said that elections should be free and clear in the region.
He also called the decision of the premier to give provisional provincial status to the region an attempt at “rigging.”
We see the Prime Minister returning to his words. He promised the people of South Punjab a separate province in 100 days before the 2018 elections. This did not happen. So, we’re going to wait and see because if the Prime Minister can do a U-turn before the election, he can do it after the election as well.
