KARACHI: On Saturday, President of the Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari paid glowing tributes to his mother, former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on her 13th death anniversary and said that while she was not physically with them, she continued to be a unifying and linking power for democratic powers and a guiding light for party leaders and workers.
Bilawal vowed that the task left behind by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto would be actively followed in a message published on the eve of the anniversary, and asked the party members to brace for a great struggle for the restoration of true independence, the supremacy of the Constitution and parliament, and the full emancipation of the nation’s people.
He said that Benazir Bhutto was a model daughter, sister, wife, mother and ruler of hearts in Islamic world and her loss would continue to be felt for centuries.
Bilawal said that not only did Benazir Bhutto empower women in a male-dominated society, she also united and courageously led the entire country throughout the fight to uphold democracy and human rights.
He said Benazir Bhutto worked for the rights of the downtrodden, women’s liberation, and oppressed and braved solitary confinement, detention, victimisation, and assassination of characters, but he never fell silent.
