KARACHI: Gross cement exports fell 21.3 per cent from 5,735 million tonnes in October to 4,508 million tonnes in November. The year-on-year growth, however from November 2019, was 4.19pc.
Data published on Friday by the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) showed that local sales collapsed by 23pc, while exports dropped on a month-on-month basis by 12pc.

Total product sales amounted to 5,225 million tonnes in September. However, during the first five months of FY21, from 20,444 million tonnes in the same timeframe last year the total cement offtake rose by 16.61 percent to 23,839 million tonnes.
Domestic dispatches increased by 15.55pc from 16.837m tonnes to 19.456m tonnes out of overall sales, while exports increased by 21.54pc from 3.607 million tonnes to 4.384 million tonnes due to increasing construction activities, data from APCMA shows.
Domestic sales in the North (Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) rose by 16pc in the first five months to 16,757m tonnes from 14,442m tonnes in the same time last year. Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa exports decreased in fmFY21 by 10.34pc to 1.087m tonnes from 1.213m tonnes during 5MFY20.
Domestic growth rose by 12.66pc to 2.698m tonnes in the South (Sindh and Balochistan) from 2.395m tonnes in the same period last fiscal year. In the first five months of FY21, exports from the southern region reported a dramatic leap of 38pc to 3,296 million tonnes from 2,394 million tonnes a year earlier.
Local cement uptake in November this year rose from 3,521 million tonnes in the same month in 2019 by 6.29pc to 3,742 million tonnes, while exports plummeted from 806,521 tonnes in the same month last year by 5pc to 766,273 tonnes. This is the first example of declining exports during this fiscal cycle, which according to the APCMA, was otherwise on the growing trend without providing any explanation.
Domestic cement dispatches rose by 4.79pc to 3.129m tonnes in the North area during November 2020 from 2.986m tonnes a year earlier. In November 2020, exports suffered a sharp decline of 31pc to 0.182m tonnes from 0.263m tonnes a year earlier.
Domestic cement dispatches rose from 534,720 tonnes in November 2019 in the South zone by 14.66pc to 613,113 tonnes. In November this year, exports increased by 7.51pc to 584,182 tonnes from 543,361 tonnes last year.
