LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the judiciary have been suggested by the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Information, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, to discuss the question of granting bail to PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz.
“Stressing that the rule of law must prevail, Dr. Awan said that the NAB should set its goals for the bail given to an inmate who is now busy insulting the law and threatening the state.
Speaking at the press club ‘Meet The Press’ programme here on Friday, she said the government was not going to suspend a prisoner’s parole, nor would it make it easier for others to get bail. She said Maryam had been given bail by the court to look after her ailing father, but PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif left for treatment in London and went everywhere except to a hospital.
Dr Awan also revealed a new ‘policy’ under which the government would stop reacting to the statements of the opposition. “We will talk about the performance of the Punjab government,” she said, adding that the government was working to bring the province out of the “Rs1.2 trillion debt” received by the previous PML-N government.
She reported that before the Lahore rally, the PML-N would receive a surprise from its own ranks. “The number of affected individuals in the PML-N and PPP ranks is increasing rapidly and are seeking new political shelter,” she said.
By presenting a no-confidence motion in the national and provincial assemblies and not holding public meetings in the wake of the second coronavirus wave, Dr. Awan suggested that the opposition parties choose a constitutional and legal way to overthrow the government.NAB
She also claimed that before her presser, she had held a comprehensive meeting with the chief minister and both decided to encourage the media and media staff. She said she had ordered the Directorate General of Public Relations to pay all the media houses’ pending dues, adding that media staff must obtain technical assistance and have accommodation in line with the Prime Minister’s vision.
The special assistant said the chief minister had declared that all divisional headquarters would create journalistic colonies and that the divisional commissioners were already ordered to define state land for the purpose. She also said that Block F of the Lahore Press Club Journalist Housing Colony would soon be inaugurated by the CM and all missing facilities would be provided in time.
President Arshad Ansari of the press club also spoke on the occasion.
