GILGIT: Heavy snowfall has taken place in the upper parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, raising people’s problems, as highways have been blocked and power supplies have been interrupted.
The upper areas of Skardu, Shigar, Kharmang, Ghanche, Ghizer, Astore, Hunza, Nagar and Diamer were shrouded by more than two feet of snow, falling temperatures to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Also, the main Gilgit-Skardu Road was closed.
Officials said the essential commodities of life, including wheat and medicine, had already been dispatched to the districts of Skardu, Astore and Hunza-Nagar to the snow-bound regions.
In the meantime, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Khalid Khursheed Khan, ordered the appropriate officials to take urgent steps to restore road contact in the snow-covered areas.
The Chief Minister ordered that the GB Disaster Management Authority and district officials remain on alert to deal with any emergency situation, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday.
It was also directed to ensure the availability of food and medical goods to remote regions.
