CHAGAI: On Saturday, local residents blocked the RCD Highway at Taftan for hours in protest against the extended closing of the gateway to Iran’s tax-free trade.
On the highway at Saindak Cross, local tribal leaders and political and religious figures, along with their supporters, suspended traffic.

After fruitful talks between protestors and the assistant commissioner of Taftan, the road was eventually reopened in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Maulana Najeebullah Mohammad Hasni, Mohammad Sharif Mengal and Essa Khan Sherzai, chief of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam, said the citizens of the border town of Taftan had faced difficulties as thousands of workers had become unemployed since the trade gate was closed.
They said that the trade gate between the border of Taftan and Mir Javeh was the key point for the people living in Taftan and other parts of the Chagai district and surrounding areas to import edible products and other daily things.
They warned that if the gate was not reopened, the demonstration would be extended.
