A 30-year-old Iraqi Named Sarmad uploaded a slefie on Facebook with a black Opal car behind him. In his post Sarmad writes his wish to go for Palestine. He ended his post with the Arabic words “Allah Hu Akber” means Allah is great.
Shortly after his post he ran his car on A100 motorway with full speed. This caused more than four accidents, three with bikes and two with cars. He almost hunted the bike riders and collided his car with them. Total six people injured in these accident cum attacks. Three of them seriously injured. This caused horror and chaos on the city ring yesterday evening.
Initial investigations by German authorities show that the attack was carried out with a religious and pathological background. The 30-year-old Iraqi Sarmad A. is believed to be the culprit. The public prosecutor’s office confirmed: “According to current knowledge, it was an Islamist-motivated attack,” said a spokesman on Wednesday.
The alerted police were able to overpower the 30-year-old and arrested him.
It is told that the Petrol Officer who arrested Sarmad also have Arab background. However he showed the courage and arrested the culprit on the spot.
Sarmad was taken to the prison collection point on Tempelhofer Damm. Meanwhile the city motorway was largely closed. The explosives experts examined several objects in the man’s car.
Apparently only tools were discovered when the suspicious box on the roof was x-rayed. Another box in the trunk was opened with a high pressure water jet around 10.30 p.m. Then it was clear: the content poses no danger. Traces of explosives, as initially suspected, were not found in the car.
The state security is investigating whether the Iraqi, who appeared mentally suspicious, has an Islamist background?
There is a debate on social media that the incident has nothing to do with Islamism. Islam teaches humanity and peace. A person’s individual act should not be linked with the religious ideologies. It is also said Sarmad was mentally ill and was previously admitted into a mental hospital. He had also shown the signs of mentality illness in past. During the writing of these lines a news report is received that Sarmad is sent to psychiatric jail.
