LAHORE: PML-N senior leader Khwaja Asif’s wife, a Sialkot former mayor and ex-PML-N MPA in the illegal housing scam, was booked by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Saturday.
Ms. Asif, former mayor Chaudhry Toheed Akhtar and former Chunian MPA Ahsan Raza Khan are accused of causing the exchequer to lose millions of rupees in the form of web map evasion and transfer fees, housing according to the ACE spokesperson.
The Kent Housing Society, jointly owned by Toheed Akhtar and Mrs. Khwaja Asif, unlawfully contained 281 land channels after the first map was approved, which was illegal under the law on private housing schemes of the Punjab government. Plots marked for open spaces such as parks, cemeteries and public services, were all sold out, he added.
The spokesman said that by illegally developing a housing scheme and invading one acre of land of the rural health centre (RHC) Kanganpur by constructing a commercial market and selling its stores without any legitimate excuse, Ahsan Raza Khan had caused financial damages to the public exchequer. Khan had sold plots in his business, namely AlJanat City, without the LDA or local municipality office having accepted its maps or location.
ACE Director-General Gohar Nafees said an iron fist would deal with those engaged in tax avoidance and malpractice. “In this scenario, every single penny of the public exchequer will be recovered from the culprits,” he said.
Khwaja Asif is also being prosecuted by NAB Lahore for allegedly forming the Kent Housing Society. Proof reveals, according to NAB, that Khwaja Asif set up a housing project that was running illegally.
NAB sought records from him about the origins and local sums of funds he, his family members (wife and son) and other partners/close relatives spent in the project.
NAB argues that the former foreign minister had unlawfully confiscated separate pieces of land owned by people who never leased their land to society in collusion with the management of society.
