COLOMBO: Opener Janneman Malan hit 121 to power South Africa to 283 for six in the rain-hit second One-day International versus Sri Lanka in Colombo on Saturday.
Malan built partnerships including a second-wicket stand of 96 with Reeza Hendricks, that made 51, after South Africa captain Keshav Maharaj elected to bat first in the minimized 47-overs-a-side match after rain delayed the beginning of the competition by 90 minutes at the R. Premadasa Arena.
Malan started with opening up partner Aiden Markram to put on 43 runs before medium-pace bowler Chamika Karunaratne struck with the very first wicket. Markram was captured behind for 21.
Malan and Hendricks, that was among the three changes in South Africa’s group for this match, mixed the appropriate dosage of care and also aggressiveness and also hit 7 limits between them.
Hendricks increased his 3rd ODI fifty before being bowled by off-spinner Dhananjaya de Silva.
