Disney has announced Iman Vellani’s Ms Marvel will star in Captain Marvel 2 in very exciting news, forging fresh links between the MCU movies and the Disney+ companion collection, Variety reported.
The role of neither character is unexpected, considering that both are encouraged in the comics by Carol Danvers to take up the names of Ms Marvel and Captain Marvel, respectively.
Captain Marvel 2 will have the main role being reprised by Brie Larson. Nia DaCosta, from Candyman, is directing the sequel. After a lengthy search, Vellani, 18, won the Kamala Khan role. The Disney+ series stars Kamala Khan, a New Jersey Pakistani-American teenager who will be the MCU’s first on-screen Muslim superhero. Vellani referred to herself as a Pakistani-American-Muslim teen with immigrant parents in a 2019 CBC interview.
Any episodes of the Ms. Marvel series will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah – the leading couple behind the blockbuster Bad Boys for Life. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who comes mostly from a documentary background, was also tapped to direct episodes of the Disney+ series, the multiple Oscar and Emmy-winning Sharmeen.
Joining them in the directors’ bullpen is Meera Menon, a comic book TV series veteran who has directed episodes of Marvel’s The Punisher, The Walking Dead and Titans.
