Back in 2006, Munna Bhai 3 was the subject of fan rumours ignited by the filmmakers themselves. After Lage Raho Munna Bhai, the successful sequel to the beloved comedy Munna Bhai M.B.B.S (2003), a third film was released by producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and director Rajkumar Hirani. The Bollywood film series, starring Sanjay Dutt as the iconic titular character alongside Arshad Warsi’s Circuit, has a huge cult following.
The promised sequel never went into development, however. All those years back, at last, Chopra opened up why it was so. The producer casually revealed in an interview with Bollywood Hungama that there were many possibilities for a Munna Bhai revival with Munna Bhai 3, but there is a small but important information that had him turning down the big bucks.
Our joy comes from the development of cinema. Our joy comes from the achievement of perfection. Frankly, I didn’t create the third Munna Bhai, which will give me how many crores you should ask industry experts, since I don’t have a script I like yet. I’ve got to be crazy,”Our joy comes from creating cinema. Our joy comes from striving for excellence. Honestly, I have not made the third Munna Bhai, which will get me how many crores you can ask industry experts, because I still don’t have a script I like. I must be crazy,”
Warsi had made a mention of Munna Bhai 3 not long ago, saying it could not happen because well, by now it would have been in the works, especially because everyone with the idea, including Dutt, is on board. Maybe he does have an argument, though. There is some merit of reviving the film series, but in too many respects it might go wrong. Chopra might be prudent to wait for a script that’s correct.
Dutt, meanwhile, who was last seen in Sadak 2, which opened to less than positive reviews, is planning for the release in July 2021 of K.G.F: Chapter 2.
