DHAKA: Spinners Mehdi Hassan and Seymour Mustafa-ur-Rehman took three wickets each as Bangladesh clinched the series by beating Sri Lanka by 103 runs in the second rain-affected ODI.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim scored a magnificent 125 to help Bangladesh win their first series victory against Sri Lanka in the format by scoring 246 runs in 48.1 overs when they were bowled out by Sher-e-Bangla National He chose to bat in the cricket stadium. Dhaka
Sri Lanka chased down 245 runs in 40 overs to win just 141-9 as Bangladesh took an unbeaten 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Shakib Al Hasan also took two wickets in a match which was interrupted three times by rain.
Earlier in the afternoon, it was Mushfiqur who launched the rescue operation after losing the opening wickets of Bangladesh.
Bangladesh, who won Sunday’s opening fitness by 33 runs, struggled to 74-4 when Mushfiqur scored 87 for the fifth wicket with Mahmudullah (41).
After the hosts decided to bat first, fast bowler Dushmantha Chamira scored the second run of the innings twice in his first over. Captain Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for 13 and Shakib for the third ball.
Left-arm wrist spinner Lakhans Sandakan dismissed opener Lytton Das for 25 and Musaddiq Hussain for 10.
Leighton cut a loose ball at the back door by Vanando Hasaranga, while Mossaddek, playing his first ODI in nearly two years, was caught by captain and wicketkeeper Kosal Perera.
Mushfiqur, along with Mahmudullah, helped rebuild Bangladesh, and the duo attacked the opposition.
Sandkan, who came back with a 3-54 lead, broke the partnership when Pereira took a quick catch to get Mahmudullah out.
Mushfiqur, who scored 84 in the first game, scored his century off 115 balls, stopping the game twice after rain to tie Cheemara with four runs. He was the last man to be fired.
Chimera won the toss and elected to bat with a score of 3-44 in 9.1 overs while teammate Quick Adana took two wickets.
Bangladesh lost the services of Muhammad Saifuddin after being hit on the head by a fast bowler during Chimera’s batting. He was replaced by fellow Seamer Taskin Ahmed as a replacement for the mob.
