Priyanka Chopra Jonas, wearing a cropped hairdo in bold clothing, has graced the cover of a revered global fashion publication. The White Tiger actress got candid as part of the feature and opened up about her vision for her Hollywood future, and how as an actor she doesn’t want to be “docile but bold”
For Elle UK’s March issue on social media, Chopra Jonas posted several photographs from the monochrome photoshoot. With this, she got to connect with the film crew in the US. I came in and said, ‘I don’t mind putting my head down, working, listening, learning in an American accent how to talk.’I don’t want where I come from to be described. I want leads to be played.
The powerhouse was clear-cut about traditional roles frequently offered to her on the grounds that “I don’t want to do the extra Indian accent” she is Indian. If my character was born and raised up in the United Kingdom or in the United States, why would she be talking like that? Why are you expected to wear a bindi? That’s a stupid, stereotypical thing. I have defied a lot of that and now, in Hollywood, I’m hitting a point where my culture is my strength rather than my description.
Chopra Jonas is currently celebrating Netflix’s The White Tiger streaming service. She plays the character of an Indian-American married to an Indian man here (Rajkummar Rao).
