ISLAMABAD: Veteran Nasir Iqbal defeated Asim Khan’s second seed to storm into the Pakistan International Squash Tournament semi-final here on Wednesday at Mushaf Squash Complex.
Nasir, who is an accomplished player who was once ranked among the world’s top 50 players, has no seeding for this championship because he was unable to enter several tournaments due to the four-year suspension placed on him by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
He made his presence known on Wednesday, however and beat second seed Asim easily in a four-set contest.
The experienced player took 42 minute to overpowered Asim Khan 11-9, 11-2, 7-11, 11-5.
Meanwhile, Tayyab Aslam, Israr Ahmed and Amaad Fareed advanced into the semifinals as well. Amna Fayyaz, Madina Zafar, Moqaddas Ashraf and Faiza Zafar also took part in the women’s semifinals. Both of them recorded victories over their respective rivals in straight sets.
