PIA plans Swat flights to promote tourism

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has determined to operate flights to Swat, Skardu as well as Gilgit with a goal to promote tourism.

Trips from Lahore to Skardu and Gilgit will certainly start following month.

A senior Civil Aeronautics Authority authorities claimed some building job had been started at Saidu Sharif Airport which was now complete.

At the same time, out of 44 flight terminals in the nation, 27 are operational, 6 have actually been scaled down while 11 have actually been shut. Among the non-functional flight terminals are the Sargodha and also Bannu airports, said the CAA.

Sargodha airport does not have any kind of CAA team, yet it has a functional PAF base Mushaf. The facility in Bannu was scaled down in 2002 due to industrial non-viability of airline companies.

However, currently there is no proposition present to operationalise it.

Amongst the flight terminals that have been scaled down are the ones in Khuzdar, Muzaffarabad, Balakot, Bannu, Parachinar and Saidu Sharif. The airport terminals that have actually been closed remain in Jiwani PN, Ormara, Sibi, Mangla, Kohat, Bhagtanwala, Mianwali, Sehwan Sharif, Mirpurkhas, Talhar and Jacobabad.

At present, 12 worldwide airports are operating throughout the nation. They are Jinnah International Airport Terminal Karachi, Allama Iqbal International Airport Terminal Lahore, Islamabad International Flight Terminal Islamabad, Bacha Khan International Airport Terminal Peshawar, Quetta International Airport, Multan International Airport Terminal, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Turbat, Gwadar, old Benazir Bhutto International Airport and Sialkot International Airport Terminal, which was constructed privately by the Sialkot Chamber of Business as well as Market.

The CAA, nevertheless, said if the place was regarded commercially sensible by the airline companies, a scaled-down flight terminal could be upgraded or made functional within 90 days.
