RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has notified its staff, including pilots and engineers, of a voluntary separation scheme (VSS) and has invited them to apply for it by 22 December.
On Monday, a PIA spokesperson said the VSS kit was prepared for workers in two categories: those of over 18 years of experience and below.

He said the benefits for the package included accrued leaves, gratuity, provident fund, medical lump sum and pension after 65 years of age. Different basic wage systems, including pilots and engineers, were established according to compensation break-up and service years of workers.
Involved workers can apply to the coordinators concerned, appointed at the facilitation desks identified at each station, the VSS application form presented separately with the signed VSS package report. The last day for applications to be received is Dec 22.
As of 30 November 2020, all regular workers under 58 years of age are eligible to enrol in the programme. Non-eligible employees include non-regular and/or temporary employees, employees who have already retired, employees who have already opted for early retirement, employees under some PIA lawsuit until 31 Dec.
The last working day of the workers approved by the VSS is Dec 31, although the estimated date of acceptance of payment vouchers is on or before January 31.
“The VSS kit is part of the restructuring of PIA. We are seeking to stick to the airline’s restructuring that would help staff.” Under the scheme, the spokesman said it would take 14 days to approve an application.
