On Saturday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that half of Punjab citizens will receive health cards from the government by the end of this year, while the whole province will receive health insurance by next year.
Following the groundbreaking of a university and a 400-bed hospital in the city, he made the announcement while addressing a large public gathering in Punjab Hafizabad district.
The premier said it would be the first time in Pakistan’s 73-year history that a common man would be confident that if someone in his family fell ill, he would have health care. The health card would allow its holders to obtain up to Rs1 million in care at any hospital, public or private.
“Even in rich countries of the world, this form of health care is not possible. Because of this, private clinics will be constructed in places such as Hafizabad because the health card will allow even poor citizens to be handled,” he noted.

The Prime Minister also said that the government had built panahgahs where the poor and workers could stay and save money, and the next aim was to provide people with cheap housing through the Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme.
“Throughout history , many people have spoken about roti, kapra and makaan. For the first time , people will get their own homes,” he said. The government is also planning for English and Urdu language schools and madressahs to adopt a standardised education curriculum, he added Punjab.
Nawaz speaking ‘India’s language’
During his address, the Prime Minister accused PML-N Supreme Nawaz Sharif of speaking the “language of India” by targeting the military leadership of the country, saying it had further strengthened his determination to bring to justice the people who plundered the country Punjab.
In response to the coalition of the anti-government Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), he said that the opposition was staging a “circus” and it was now open for the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to prosecute cases against them.
“I want to say all of them. Your opponent was formerly people who were themselves thieves or needed power, but now your opponent is a human trained to fight by Allah,” said the premier.
He said that the opposition had sought to “blackmail” the government by essentially insisting that NAB be dissolved before giving their consent to the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) legislation.
