ISLAMABAD: In order to avoid the spread of the second Covid-19 surge, PM Imran Khan called on all political parties to urgently stop meetings and rallies around the world.
“We have cancelled our Saturday rally and we have agreed that any action that does not harm people’s livelihoods should be stopped immediately, ” PM the premier said after a National Coordination Committee (NCC) meeting in Islamabad on Monday while addressing the journalists.
PM Imran reported that all political rallies around the country have been cancelled by his party and I would expect other parties to do the same.”
He said that the interim Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) had told him that the number of infections in the area had risen exponentially following the election campaign.
PM Imran also urged the country to strictly stick to coronavirus SOPs [standard operating procedures], announcing the decisions taken in the light of the resurgence of a second coronavirus wave in Pakistan. “When we lifted the lockout last time people adopted SOPs and that helped lower the number of incidents.”
“In particular, he encouraged crowds of people to wear face masks in public places and preserve social distance “as the country’s rate of positivity has improved by 4% in the past 10 days.
We will save our nation from returning to the situation that occurred in June when hospitals in our urban centres were packed to their limit if we take this one precaution [face masks],” the PM said.”
Furthermore the premier called on mosque administrators to return to strictly implementing the SOPs implemented during the Ramzan era.
As for the closing of schools, the prime minister claimed that for another week, the NCC will examine the situation and then take a decision.
