LAHORE: A police officer investigating a 200-kanal land grab case in the Defense Housing Authority was moved on Friday in a significant reorganisation of SP level officers.
An prominent business community is in control of some 50 canals of land.
Capital City Police Officer Umar Sheikh handed over his investigation to Cantt SP Dr. Anoosh Masood Chaudhry after registering a complaint with the Heyr police station in October of this year.
Complainant Zulqernain Chaudhry told the police that Arshad Ansari, his father’s attendant when he (the complainant) and his sister were in their youth, passed possession of his precious family house. Zulqernain said Ansari faked papers to sell the property because his father was in coma due to ill health, and since then a case has been in court.
He said that, despite a stay order issued by a local court, prominent people of the region, including Sheikh Yaqoob and his son-in-law Sheikh Faisal, began building on the property of his father to create a marquee (marriage hall). In addition to other people the police nominated Ansari as the prime accused in the FIR and asked the CCPO to take an action under the policy of the prime minister against land grabbers.
Another development occurred when the case investigating officer and the DSP involved moved the case file to the Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment, the official said.
When the matter came to the CCPO’s attention, he expressed his absolute displeasure and fired the Heyr police station investigating officer and moved the DSP.
The SSP Abdul Ghaffar Qaisrani inquiry, side by side, also interfered in the matter and called both sides to his office to hear them.
The letter of advice from Mr. Qaisrani to Dr. Chaudhry also came to the fore when she replied in blunt terms to the SSP inquiry for causing excessive intervention in her official matters. The two officers’ communications entered the high-ups of the police and stayed under debate at higher police forums.
On Friday, Dr Anoosh was assigned to the IGP.
According to the notification, Tauseef Haider, Punjab Assistant Inspector General Inquiries, was moved to an existing vacancy and posted as SP, Lahore, a crime investigation department.
SP Mohammad Irshad Zahid’s Mianwali investigation was moved and posted as a Lahore Cantt SP investigation.
