In a recent interview, Bollywood actor Sara Ali Khan addressed certain aspects of her upcoming film, Coolie No 1, which may appear to some as ‘problematic.’ She urged viewers to watch the forthcoming remake of the 1995 comedy starring Govinda and Karisma Kapoor, which according to the Hindustan Times, will feature Varun Dhawan in the lead role, with an open mind.
If you see it through a politically correct prism,’ every range of laughter in our lives will be missed,’ according to the Love Aaj Kal star.

I will encourage people to watch the film with the truthful intent with which it is said. There is a difference between what you say on Twitter and what you’re trying to say in an entertaining comedy. If everybody [expects] all to be politically correct, she was quoted as saying that every scope of humour in our lives would be [lost].
Sara stressed at the same time that one should not be ‘condemned’. “You can’t be demeaning, of course. It’s amusing, Govinda sir, duping Karisma into making her think that he’s not a coolie. It isn’t about cheating on him. In the end, he falls in love with her, and that is what most of us are looking forward to in life,’ she said.
Sara also said that she shouldn’t compare her abilities as a comic actor to those of her parents—Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. I am not as spontaneous as my mother or my family. All is about listening to what the other person does. Cracking is a difficult genre. Varun helped me improve the timing of my comic. In this genre, he is much more experienced, she said.
She had already denied all similarities with Karisma in an earlier interview, and had said that there’s no point in trying to ape what Karisma did, just to put her own spin on it. Also starring Paresh Rawal, Jaaved Jaaferi, Rajpal Yadav, and Johnny Lever, the new Coolie No 1 is directed by David Dhawan. After its theatrical release was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the film is scheduled for a Christmas Day release on Amazon Prime Video.
