Saudi Arabia suspended all international commercial flights for a renewable week late on Sunday except for foreign flights already approved to depart the country, state news agency SPA announced citing a source from the Ministry of the Interior.
The source added that the entrance to the kingdom would also be suspended for a renewable week via land and sea ports. These steps come after the spread among a number of countries of a new strain of Covid-19.
As a consequence, in an order released early on Monday, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) also suspended all its flights scheduled for Saudi Arabia. Various flights to cities in Saudi Arabia from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad have been cancelled.
PIA spokesman Abdullah Khan said, “Until flight permissions are restored, all flights will remain cancelled,”
He noted that as soon as flights are resumed, all affected passengers would be accommodated at the earliest and advised passengers to include their right phone numbers so that they can be provided with updates.
For any advice or information, Khan said the PIA call centre should be contacted at 111 786 786.
