On Tuesday, Federal Minister for Media and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz urged former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his sons and former Minister of Finance Ishq Dar to attend and not politicise the issue at the funeral of Begum Shamim Akhtar in Pakistan.
“There is no restriction on them coming to Pakistan,” said the Minister of Information in a tweet.

On November 22, PML-N Supreme Nawaz Sharif and Party President Shehbaz Sharif’s non-agenarian mother, Begum Shamim Akhtar, died in London.
Despite being unwell to be with Sharif, who has been there for medical attention since late last year, she left for London in February.
Sharif and his sons are unlikely to come to Pakistan to attend her funeral prayers, according to party sources, which would be arranged in Lahore by the daughter of the PML-N supremo, Maryam Nawaz, and her husband, Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar.Shibli Faraz
Maryam, who is also the PML-N vice president, received the news of her grandmother’s demise when she was present at the 11-party opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally in Peshawar on 22 November.
After apologising to the audience for being unable to answer the gathering, she left the venue and asked party members and followers to pray for the departed soul and for her ailing father’s early recovery.
After, in a tweet, Maryam regretted the mindset of the government after her grandmother’s demise.
No government officer was adequately compassionate to warn me of the death of my grandmother. I have asked Mian Sahib [Nawaz Sharif] not to return at all to Pakistan]. She wrote on her official Twitter account that these are tyrants and vengeful blind people from whom no sort of gentlemanship is required.
