ISTANBUL: Nine Turkish soldiers were killed and four others injured when their military helicopter crashed in the southeast of the country on Thursday, the defence ministry claimed.

Television photos from the crash website revealed the ground blanketed in snow and presence hindered by thick clouds in the mountainous area.
Judgment AKP celebration lawmaker Tolga Agar, who rests on the Turkish parliament’s protection board, tweeted that Lt Gen Osman Erbas was amongst the dead.

The defence ministry did not instantly verify the elderly commander’s death in a statement which stated contact with the helicopter was lost in the Bitlis district 30 minutes after it took off.
“9 heroic soldiers fell as saints and also 4 were wounded in the mishap,” the support ministry stated.
