During an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Nargosa district of South Waziristan, two terrorists were killed while another was injured, the military media wing said on Monday.
“Security forces conducted an IBO in Nargosa area of South Waziristan district. During intense fire, two terrorists Usman Ali and Waheed were killed and one got injured and apprehended,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The terrorists killed were active members of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Sajna group, improvised explosive device (IED) specialists, militant teachers, motivators and participants in security force attacks.
On Oct 14, 2020, terrorist Usman was also engaged in a security force attack in which Capt Umer Cheema, two JCOs and three soldiers were martyred while four were wounded, the statement said.
A convoy of security forces with improvised explosive devices near Razmak was targeted on Oct 14 last year, leading to the martyrdom of Captain Umer and five soldiers.
The outlawed TTP assumed responsibility for the attack. In a brief statement at the time when members of his party carried out the attack in the Shaktoi district adjacent to North Waziristan, TTP spokesperson Mohammad Khurasani said.
Violence has recently seen a surge in merged tribal districts, especially in North Waziristan and South Waziristan, following a lull due to the progress of military operations, culminating in the martyrdom of many officers, soldiers and civilians.
On January 14, after security forces carried out two separate IBOs on terrorist hideouts, three Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in an exchange of fire with rebels in the North Waziristan tribal area.
The ISPR said in a statement that two alleged militants, including an IED specialist, were killed in the raids.
Two soldiers were martyred earlier this month and three others were wounded in a terrorist attack on a security checkpoint in North Waziristan’s Speenwam district.
