LAHORE: This year has been the year of Pakistan’s Turkish output. Although addictive Turkish soaps were not foreign to local viewers, the dramatic appearance of one character on our screens changed the way Pakistanis viewed television and historical fiction.
On his white horse, Aktolgali, Ertugrul Ghazi came and took our imagination by surprise, signifying unity, prosperity and most importantly, our trust in the Almighty. Ertugrul Ghazi is the lead and is played by Engin Altan Düzyatan of the Turkish period drama Diriliş: Ertuğrul.

Though some of the show’s stars have already visited Pakistan and thanked their fans for their support, the new actor to visit is none other than Düzyatan’s own lead star.
On Thursday morning, he arrived in Lahore for a short visit, where he got a warm welcome from his fans. He talked to the reporters on Friday afternoon at a short news briefing. The 41-year-old actor said, “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Imran Khan for praising Diriliş: Ertuğrul,”
He then thanked his Pakistani fans for the outpouring of support he had gotten for his depiction of the iconic historic figure over the past few months. “I would love to work in a Pakistani drama or film, given the right opportunity.

Also in awe of the beautiful areas up north was Düzyatan. “I’m actually sad that I didn’t get to stay more,” he smiled. “Pakistan is so beautiful! The sceneries are gorgeous, the mountains and the surrounding areas are breathtaking. I love the Lahori food as well It’s a bit spicy but very tasty.”
For a few months now, rumours of a celebrity visiting Pakistan have been rife. The actor had previously shared in an interview with BBC Asian Network why he feels the series appeals so much to the Pakistani audience.
“I think both Turkish people and Pakistani people love well-crafted storeys. Turkish series are successful at conveying a touching sense of drama to the audience,” he said.

Speaking on how the viewers are now intrigued to visit Turkey after seeing the film, he said, “We know for a fact that Turkey became an even popular tourist destination after the TV series was released, which is great. We are really glad it happened,” he added.
